Privacy Statement

Overview

Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois (GSEIWI) is committed to protecting your privacy. You can visit most pages on our site without giving any information about yourself. Sometimes we need information to provide services that you request, and this privacy statement explains data collection and use in those situations. This privacy statement only applies to girlscoutseiwi.org; it does not apply to other online or offline Web sites, products or services. Please read the complete GSEIWI privacy statement.

The GSEIWI Web site has several purposes:
  • To provide information to our members, including information about Girl Scout programs and activities
  • To provide information to adults interested in Girl Scouting within our service area, including adult leadership and training opportunities
  • To update Girl Scout records over the Internet
It is not necessary to update individual member records by means of our Web site. Online access to individual records is offered as a convenience to our constituency. Please call our office number listed below if you would prefer to update your individual record by phone.

Collection of Your Personal Information

We retain two types of information:
"Personal Data"
The information gathered by GSEIWI is limited to only such data as is necessary to satisfy the registration requirements of Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) or particular program needs of our Council. Such information includes: Name, Address, E-mail Address, Telephone Number, School Grade, Birth Date, Parent or Guardian Names and Business Telephone Numbers, Emergency Contact Name and Telephone Number, Race\Ethnicity (optional), and Disability information. Information also is collected for adults who wish to volunteer in Girl Scouting.

Updating information through the girlscoutseiwi.org Web site is voluntary and may be updated by mail, phone, or email.

"Non-Personal Data"
GSEIWI also collects certain information about your computer hardware and software. This information may include: your IP address, browser type, operating system, domain name, access times, and referring Web site addresses. This information is used for the operation of the service, to maintain quality of the service, and to provide general statistics regarding use of girlscoutseiwi.org.

Use of your Personal Information

GSEIWI is chartered by GSUSA. Our charter obligates us to perform various services, including gathering information necessary to register a girl or adult for Girl Scout membership. Actual registration as a Girl Scout member is granted by GSUSA. GSEIWI obtains information and transmits it to GSUSA.

GSEIWI and GSUSA will store and process you or your child's personally identifiable information in their registration databases. GSEIWI will not give or sell your personally identifiable information to any outside organization under any circumstance. Your information may be shared with agents or volunteers for GSEIWI in connection with services these individuals or entities perform for our Council, but only on an "as needed" basis related to specific Girl Scout activities sponsored by the Council.

Volunteer information is collected by GSEIWI via the online Volunteer Application and the Criminal Background Check Authorization forms and used by the Council for criminal background checks, and to verify educational, personal, and employment references for those adults applying for adult membership.

Information is collected from visitors to the Web site for the following reasons:
  • To ensure that the site is relevant to your needs
  • To deliver services such as: newsletters, publications, events or training that you request
  • To help create and publish content most relevant to you
  • To allow you access to limited-entry areas of the site as appropriate
  • To get your feedback
  • Deletion or Change of Personally Identifiable Information
If you have submitted personally identifiable information through GSEIWI Web site and would like to have that information changed or deleted from our database, please use e-mail or send a letter to the council at the address provided below. We will then use reasonable efforts to remove your or your child's personally identifiable information from our files or change such information as you request. You also may contact us through any of the methods listed below to request the personally identifiable information that GSEIWI has collected about you or your child through its Web site. GSEIWI will use reasonable efforts to supply you with this information and correct any factual inaccuracies in this information.

Security

GSEIWI and GSUSA are committed to keeping the data you provide us secure. We will take reasonable precautions to protect your personally identifiable information from loss, misuse, or alteration. Agents or volunteers for GSEIWI who have access to your personally identifiable information in connection with providing Girl Scout services to you or your child are required to keep the information confidential and are not permitted to use this information for any other purpose than to carry out the services they are performing for GSEIWI or GSUSA.

Parental or Guardianship Consent

The Federal Trade Commission regulations require parental consent when information is gathered about a child under the age of 13. GSEIWI and GSUSA obligate themselves to obtain such consent for any child under the age of 17.

Should the parent or guardian of a child wish to permit the collection of personally identifiable information via GSEIWI's Web site but not consent to our disclosure of this information to GSUSA, it will be necessary for the parent or guardian to make use of an alternate method to register a child for Girl Scouting. As noted above, use of our Web site to update personal information is purely voluntary and may be accomplished by mail, phone, or email.
