Girl Scout Camp ~ Summer 2010

Welcome to Girl Scout Camp!
~ Registration Opens March 1, 2010 ~

Girl Scouts has a long history of innovative camping activities for girls. Beginning with the purchase of the very first Girl Scout camp by Juliette Gordon Low nearly 100 years ago, GirlScouts has offered girls of all ages exciting and new opportunities during the summer months. This year is no exception for Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois (GSEIWI).

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. At Girl Scout Camp, girls discover their interests in a safe, natural setting, connect to others and take action to make the world a better place through experiences that are girl led and involve cooperative learning and learning by doing. Our camps provide girls a supportive, safe environment where they are urged to expand their horizons and try new things. While girls learn new physical skills like swimming or horseback riding, they also learn life skills like teamwork, leadership, and self-reliance.

Camp opens up a world of new things for girls, only some of which are listed on the following pages. Please understand that the content of the program is only part of what she’ll learn. She will also learn how to be strong, how to be confident, how to live as part of a community, and she’ll have fun!

All four camps are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). Every three years, the ACA visits our camps to measure every facet of camp operation by a set of standards that are internationally recognized in
the camping industry. Our camps have earned this mark of distinction during the past four decades.

NASA space explorers camp >>

Why do astronauts eat tortillas in space? Where would a space explorer find water and oxygen? If you are curious about our solar system, this session is for you! This mini space camp will be filled with awesome exploration opportunities. Don’t worry, we’ll find time to land at camp and enjoy traditional camp activities, too!

For Junior Girl Scouts: A very exciting opportunity is available for girls entering grades 4-5 in 2010 through a resident camp session called Space Explorers. Our council will be the first Girl Scout council in the nation to a program with NASA based on the 21st Century Explorer program. Click here for more information.

Resident Camp – the real deal…
Girl Scouts provides unparalleled camp experiences, where money is never a reason that a girl cannot attend camp. Our new three-tiered pricing structure allows us to continue to provide this type of experience to as many girls as possible while giving families the chance to support Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois summer camp at a level at which they are comfortable. This program is voluntary, confidential, and will not in any way affect a girl's experience at camp.

Please help us provide a consistent message to parents and troop leaders alike regarding this system. We are confident that it is fair and that we can still offer a wonderful resident camping experience to every girl that wants one. Follow this link for a letter from Debby Stork our Summer resident camp coordinator.

The camp guide this year is a bit different than past guides. The guide has two parts; One side of 31 pages are for the girls (4 MB). The flip side of 25 pages are for parents (11 MB). Here's a break down of the entire guide (PDF) available to view, print, or save: (The online camp search indicates if a camp session is full or has been closed.)
