Girl Scout Juliettes
Girl Scout Juliettes are a different way to participate; individually registered Girl Scouts.
Why do girls become Girl Scout Juliettes?
Girls may live in towns or neighborhoods where there are no troops, or there is no additional room left in a troop so you become a Juliette until you can be placed in a troop.
Or maybe you have been a troop member at one time, but your troop no longer meets. Perhaps your previous troop leader moved away or chose not to volunteer for another year.
Or you--or your parents--may have other activities that make it difficult to attend troop meetings such as other extra curricular activities and school functions.
Regardless of why a girl chooses to become a Girl Scout Juliette, there are still many fun things to do as a Girl Scout, such as:
- Attend Events—Girl Scout Juliettes can attend any Girl Scout activity for their grade level. Many fun events are available to choose from. Whether these events are at a council level or service unit. Please look through your event guide or refer to our Program at a Glance sheet, where you can look at all of the events going on in our council.
- Go to Girl Scout Camp— Girl Scout Juliettes can explore the world around them through a summer adventure. Choose from our four wonderful camps in our council: Camp Tahigwa, Little Cloud, Conestoga and L-Kee-Ta. - Cookie Sale Program and Much, Much More—Did you know that Girl Scout Juliettes can still sell Girl Scout Cookies and fall products? It is not too late to be apart of the Cookie Sale Program and set your goals for the 2009 Cookie Sale Program. Contact Kirk Watson at the Cedar Rapids Service Center to get the information that you need to participate.
- Wear the Girl Scout Uniform—Girl Scout Juliettes can choose to wear the Girl Scout uniform appropriate for their grade level. Instead of troop numbers, Girl Scout Juliettes can wear a special purple Girl Scout Juliette Patch on their sash or vest.
- Earn Awards—Juliettes can earn the appropriate official Girl Scout recognitions for their grade level—the Journey Awards, Try-Its, Badges, Interest Project Awards, STUDIO 2B Focus Charms, etc. and display them on the front of their sash or vest. Girl Scout Juliettes can also earn other unofficial recognitions, such as council patches, which are to be worn on the back of the sash or vest.
- Stay Connected—At the Service Unit level they do have in place someone called Juliette Coordinators this is to help keep local Juliettes and their families informed, involved, and connected to the fun of Girl Scouting. Not all service units have Juliette Coordinators, that is why we have to put a Juliette Coordinator in place at the council level to help track Juliettes.
- Get the News— Girl Scout Juliettes receive council publications as well such as the Event Guide(once a year), Council News (five times a year), Girlfriends for grades 6-12 (four times a year) and Girl Scout Families (three times a year). The Juliette Coordinator at the council level, Jamie Harrington will also be keeping Juliettes and families informed with emails, postcards and mailings of updates on a regular basis.
Juliette Coordinator
Thank you for registering as a Girl Scout Juliette. My name is Jamie Harrington and I am the new Juliette coordinator for Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois. My goal is to eliminate the communication barrier between our council and Juliettes. We do have in place Juliette coordinators at our service unit. However, there are still hundreds of Girl Scout Juliettes in our council who are not getting the information they need to have a real Girl Scout experience.
Starting in the fall, if you register as a Juliette you can receive quarterly Juliette Program Packets that will be filled with wonderful ideas of what you can do for badge work, council events, ideas for field trips and a whole lot more of fun and game. To receive the quarterly Program Packet send $5 or 1 Cookie Program Credit to Jamie at the Waterloo Area Service Center, she will then put you on a the list to receive a Program packet four times a year. Our goal is to send out four packets each year of your designated grade level to each Juliette.
