Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Iowa began venturing out into the social media world in late 2008. We now have a presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr and we’re now slowly venturing into FourSquare. GSEIWI is a leader among Girl Scout councils nationwide in the use of social media.

GSEIWI has several fan pages on Facebook, all catering to general or camp audiences. Our general council Facebook “like” page is at: http://www.facebook.com/GSEIWI
Our camp alumnae “like” pages on Facebook can be found at the following locations:
While our council Facebook page covers most Girl Scout topics, it allows us to present information and news to our fans on a regular basis. It also allows our volunteers and girls to interact with us in the social media realm. Our camp Facebook pages serve a more specific audience, that being girls and women who have been in residence at any of our four camps. Former Girl Scouts, campers and camp staff like to share stories of their camp days, which is great for our girls to hear about.
Our fans on Facebook may post their own photos and videos, as well as links, on our Facebook pages. We encourage the two-way street on our social media sites.
GSEIWI also maintains a Twitter feed that allows the council to send out short messages of up to 140 characters that can be read by anyone with or without a Twitter account, or you may choose to receive the messages as text messages on your mobile device.
Our Twitter account can be seen by going to http://twitter.com/GSEIWI. If you have a Twitter account, you may choose to “follow” us and you will receive our updates when you log on to your account. In addition, posts by the council on our five Facebook fan pages also are cross-posted on our Twitter feed. Links are a primary component of our Tweets (messages) on our Twitter account.
YouTube is a very popular site for the posting and sharing of videos. GSEIWI maintains a channel on YouTube at http://www.YouTube.com/GSEIWI
On our YouTube channel, you will see dozens and dozens of videos, some made by our own girls and some more professionally produced. Some videos are of public service announcements of Girl Scouts activities, while some are videos we have marked as “favorites” from GSUSA or other allied partners.
There are many videos to be seen on the GSEIWI channel and we plan to be adding more in the future. If you have a video of a Girl Scouts activity, event or project, please feel free to share it with us via YouTube, or contact us for delivery options.
GSEIWI recently ventured out to Flickr, which is a service owned by Yahoo that allows the sharing of photos. GSEIWI recently digitally archived a lot of its history and you can visit our Flickr account to see the hundreds of documents and photos that have been preserved digitally for decades to come. Right now, we only have the historical aspect posted on our Flickr account, but we are exploring other options for our Flickr account in the months ahead. For now, you can visit us on Flickr at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/GSEIWIarchives
Tired of going to our website to find out what has been recently added? Now you can stay better informed by retrieving the latest contact.
(Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based format for sharing and distributing Web content. GSEIWI's RSS feeds let you know what's new or has been updated online.
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. The number of sites offering RSS feeds is growing rapidly.
