This page describes the service areas function and the jobs performed by members of the service team. It is encouraged that all positions are filled with a broad range of volunteers which will ensure that the service team runs most effectively.
The service unit is the most common term used by Girl Scout councils to denote the geographic subdivisions of the council. The service unit provides the setting within which the primary services of a council (organizing troop/groups and providing direct services to girls and Girl Scout leaders) take place.
The service team provides the primary services needed in a geographic subdivision. A service team is usually composed of: service unit director, treasurer, one or more school organizers, leader mentor, registrar, event coordinator, community information coordinator, adult learning coordinator, recognition coordinator, product sales coordinator and Juliette coordinator.
Welcome to the 2010-2011 Girl Scout troop year! Volunteers across the council were asked for their feedback on the service they were receiving from the council through the service area meetings. The data was compiled and reviewed by a volunteer task force to make some important changes in the delivery of service for our service teams and leaders. Two major findings were evident; volunteers said they would prefer to meet monthly as service units and they want consistent information.
So, "TEAM Connections" was designed for you, the TEAM member, as a way to give you timely information on a monthly basis. This will be either emailed or mailed to you each month prior to your next service unit meeting. This information will then be shared, by you, at your service unit meetings. If there are handout pieces that need to accompany this information, you will receive it from the department. Thank you for agreeing to hold a position on the service team and to participate in the service unit meeting. Please continue to give us your feedback!
